American DG Energy Powers Critical Systems During Outage at Hotel Indigo
July 11th, 2008 by adminNEWTON, Mass., July 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — American DG Energy Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ADGE) , a leading On-Site Utility, offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling systems, successfully provided back-up power to hotel Indigo for critical systems during a power outage last week. When the power went out at the hotel Indigo during a violent thunderstorm last Wednesday, July 2, 2008, the recently installed On-Site Utility by American DG Energy was put to an immediate test.
“We were initially interested in the On-Site Utility to save money, avoid the capital investment and to fulfill our commitment towards sustainability and carbon reduction,” stated Mark Shouger, General Manager of the Indigo hotel in Newton. “We were aware of its unique back-up capability, but we never expected to test it so soon. We are pleased that our guests can confidently continue to experience our distinctive boutique service during any weather condition.”
The On-Site Utility located at the hotel Indigo produces energy in the form of electricity, space heat, swimming pool heat and domestic hot water. The hotel only pays for the energy produced by the system, while the equipment cost and its operation is the responsibility of American DG Energy. With the innovative Premium Power CM-100 combined heat and power (CHP) system from Tecogen Inc., the system runs base-loaded to provide energy savings for the hotel, but has the unique capability of providing back-up power when the utility grid experiences a blackout. A separate generator was not required.
When the power went out at the hotel Indigo, the CM-100 took over and provided power to several key areas in the hotel including lighting, air conditioning, refrigerators and freezers in the kitchen, telephone system, computers and the lounge and restaurant areas. The On-Site Utility carried a load of approximately 80 kW for over 5 hours.
On-Site Utility
American DG Energy sells the energy produced on-site from a CHP system to an individual property as an alternative to the outright sale of energy equipment. On-Site Utility customers only pay for the energy produced by the CHP system and receive a guaranteed discount rate on the price of the energy. All system capital, installation and operating expenses are paid by American DG Energy. All system installation, operation and support are handled by the Company as well.
